Travel to Hiroshima & Miyajima

Day 3.

I took a highway bus from Shin-Hakushima Station in Hiroshima and arrived at Habu Port in Innoshima  Island before noon.

I rent a cross bike there and started cycling on the Shimanami Kaido.

Oops, before cycling, let’s take lunch!

I went to Ueda Okonomiyaki, which one of the guests in KICHI recommended.

I took out Ueda’s Okonomiyaki to the seaside and enjoyed an island picnic.

I landed on Ikuchijima Island after Innoshima Island and stopped at Kosanji Temple.

Thinking about tourism, this is an interesting spot.

It is a relatively new Buddhist temple built about 80 years ago by a businessman.

It has no religious supporters and is opened all to the public as a museum.

You will see glittering buildings imitating famous Japanese temples one after another.

There is a marble garden created by a sculptor too.

So instagenic spot.

It costs 1,400 yen for the admission fee, but it is well maintained and repaired.

Despite the cold winter weekdays, I saw some tourists there.

In a sense, it’s a unique temple, a museum, a tourist spot, and instagrammable.

Winter is the best season for citrus fruits on Shimanami Kaido.

The counterclockwise road around Ikuchijima Island from Ikuchibashi Bridge is almost flat and easy to bike while seeing the sea and the islands.

Although the cyclist tends to travel the entire 70km course by bike between Onomichi, Japan main island side, and Imabari, Shikoku island side, I recommend pedaling only the section you like by taking a bus and ferry on the others.

I saw the Tatara Bridge, connecting Ikuchijima and Omishima.

At the time of completion, it was the largest cable-stayed bridge in the world.

There is a prefectural border between Hiroshima and Ehime on the bridge.

Let’s jump it over!

There is a Cyclist Sanctuary Monument on the end of the bridge in Omishima Island.

A 30-minute ride from the monument, there was an inn I booked in the Miyaura district on the west side of the island.

Omishima Island is located right in the middle of the Shimanami Kaido and is the largest island, so it is a good place to stay.

There are various types and price ranges of accommodation there.

Among them, the one I chose was “Kontama“.

The reason why I chose was their wonderful seafood dinner!

Even though I was the only guest on that day, it was a supper with so many dishes!

I could not stop helping the rice.
