A photo of a pilgrim couple.

Our Guests

A woman in her 70s stayed alone at Guest House Wakabaya.

It was an ohenro pilgrimage by car.

When she made her reservation over the phone, she told me that she had lost her husband last month.

She has lived crying, but she decided to go on pilgrimage to calm her mind so that she wouldn’t cry anymore.

While checking in, she told me about her memories with her husband.

“When we went on a driving trip together, he used to order me to keep looking at the car navigation system carefully.”

“When the laundry fell into the gutter, he always picked it up for me.”

“I fell in love with his handsome profile with a high nose.”

“He bought a new smartphone last fall but couldn’t use it well at all.”

While she was talking about the memories a lot, she laughed and shed tears.

“I came to the pilgrimage with him.”

She showed me a small photo of her husband.

On the check-out morning.

“Shall I take a photo of you two?”

When I saw her off, I suggested to her.

She stood with his photo in her hands.

After taking the photo of the pilgrim couple, they left.

It began raining on a warm spring morning.
