カンボジア最終日の朝。昨日、書いた絵葉書に切手を貼って、郵便局から出します。全部、届くといいね。
The morning of the last day in Cambodia. He put stamps on the postcards he wrote the day before and sent them out from the post office. I hope all the postcards will be delivered correcly.
最後の目的地、アンコール国立博物館にやって来ました。
We arrived at our final destination, the Angkor National Museum.
乳海攪拌の顔出しパネルがあったら、やらないわけにはいきません。自ら阿修羅になります。幸太郎の顔の出来栄えが、パネル超え。
He can’t miss the face cutout of Samudra Manthana (The Churning of the Ocean of Milk, a major Hindu episode). He became one of the Asuras. His expression is better than the panel, isn’t it?
いよいよ、最後の食事。鶏クイティアオ、おいしいね。
Finally, the last meal. Chicken noodles are delicious!
「お父さんエスコートのシェムリアップふたり旅は楽しかった？」
「うん！」
シェムリアップ発ホーチミン（ベトナム）行きの飛行機で出国します。
“Did you enjoy your trips to Siem Reap escorted by Dad?”
“Yes!”
We left Siem Reap for Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam by plane.
普段はまったく昼寝しない幸太郎が、うるさいプロペラの真横でもすぐに爆睡。疲れたね。
Kotaro, who normally doesn’t nap at all, immediately fell asleep, even right next to the noisy propeller. Yes, he was tired.
ホーチミンでプノンペンからのお母さん、喜一、寿々子チームと合流。みんなで本場のフォーを食べるけど、おうちでお母さんが作るフォーのほうがおいしいと言います。お母さんのフォーレベル、高すぎやろ。
In Ho Chi Minh City, we met up with my wife, Kiichi, and Suzuko, who came from Phnom Penh. We ate authentic pho noodles together, but we said the pho made by my wife at home was better.
実は今回の旅での最大のトラブルは、ホーチミンでした。
The biggest trouble on this trip occurred in Ho Chi Minh City.
私が頭痛で一日中、ゲストハウスで寝ていた日、妻が子ども3人を連れて、ホーチミン市内の子どもの遊び場にお出かけしてくれていたのですが、その帰りのタクシーを降りたところで車内にスマホを置き忘れ！ ちょうど私の頭痛も回復したところで、「俺のスマホの『デバイスを探す』アプリを使って、スマホ取り返してくるわ！」と、別のタクシーを拾って、スマホを置き忘れたタクシーを追跡しました。妻スマホはタクシーに乗っているので、現在地が止まったり動いたりで、それをベトナム語しか通じない運転手さんに伝えながら追うのです。
On the day I was sleeping in the room all day with a headache, my wife took our three children to a children’s playground. When they got out of the taxi on the way back, she left her phone in the taxi! Just as they came back, I recovered from my headache. “Okay, I’m going out to get your phone back by using the ‘Find My Device’ app on my phone!” I picked up another taxi alone and tracked down the taxi that had my wife’s phone. I followed the moving taxi on the app and somehow told its current location to my driver, who only spoke Vietnamese.

“It’s that taxi!”
その運転手をつかまえると、特徴は妻が言った通りの人物。電話をかけると、運転手のポーチの中から呼び出し音が鳴るではないか。「返してほしければ、１００，０００ドンだ」、と。運転手はいい人ではなかったのです。少し躊躇したものの、日本円に換算すれば600円ぐらい。さっと、100,000ドンを渡してスマホを取り返しました。ここまでの緊迫した状況の写真は撮る余裕もなくて、宿に戻ってきた時の写真がこれです。
When I saw the driver, his features were the same as my wife had told me. When I telephoned my wife’s phone, I heard ringing from the driver’s pouch. “If you want it back, give me 100,000 VND”. He was not a nice man. I hesitated a little, but it was only about 600 Japanese yen. Quickly, I gave him 100,000 VND and took back her phone. The situation was so tense that I didn’t take any photo, and below is the one when I came back to the room
「おとうさん、すごーい」と、子どもたちが手足をマッサージしてくれました。なめんなよ。
“Dad is great!” Our children said and massaged my hands and feet. Yes, Dad did the best.
そんなこんなで旅もいよいいよ終わり。ホーチミンの空港で寿々子にカップラーメンを食べさせる幸太郎兄ちゃんです。シャツはもちろん、アンコール・ワット。
And so the trip is finally over. Kotaro fed instant noodles to his lovely sister Suzuko at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Of course, he wore the Angkor Wat shirt.
帰りの飛行機でも、漫画「アンコール・ワットのサバイバル」を兄弟で読みます。幸太郎の旅の教科書です。
それから、韓国・インチョンで1泊して乗り継ぎ、高松へと帰ってきました。
Kotaro and Kiichi were reading the comic “Survival at Angkor Wat” together again on the return flight. It was Kotaro’s travel textbook. Then we stayed overnight in Inchon, South Korea, and returned to Takamatsu, our home.
帰国から約10日後。シェムリアップの幸太郎からお父さん宛の絵葉書が届きました。
10 days after returning home, a postcard addressed to me arrived from Kotaro in Siem Reap.

クイズがあまりにもハイレベルなのはさておき、楽しい旅だったね。

帰国して約20日後。幸太郎のカンボジア・アンコール遺跡の旅はまだ続きます。

関心はアンコール・ワットのレリーフに刻まれていた古代インドの長編叙事詩、ラーマーヤナへ。ごくたまに渋めの挿絵があるぐらいで、本当に字ばっかりの329ページ。割と大人でも読み始めるのに勇気がいる一冊を、小3がこの集中力で読んでいます。ちなみに、ラーヴァナ、ハヌマーン、ヴィシュヌ、ブラフマー、コーサラ、ランカーなどの固有名詞はカンボジアに行く前からこの坊主頭の中に入っています。数ヶ月かけて親子一緒に読破しました。
His interest led him to the Ramayana, a long epic from ancient India, which was carved on a relief at Angkor Wat. The book he chose was 329 pages long, with only a few illustrations and a lot of text. My 9-year-old son is concentrating on reading this book, which even adults need the courage to start reading. Incidentally, proper Indian nouns such as Ravana, Hanuman, Vishnu, Brahma, Kosala, and Lanka had been in his buzz-cut head since before going to Cambodia. It took several months for him and me to read it together.
