宿の設備が数年間かけてゆっくりと劣化していくものには、案外、気がつかないものです。
障子紙を張り替えました。
特にシミや破れがあったわけではありませんが、ふと見ると、全体がやや茶色くなってきていました。
開業以来の7年間、朝日や夕日を浴び続けてきたからです。

I repapered “shoji”, a Japanese sliding paper window.
They did not have any stains or holes, but they were bronzed because were bathed in strong sunlight for seven years since the opening of Wakabaya.
古い障子紙の桟（さん）の部分を、濡れ雑巾で濡らします。

古い糊が浮いてくるので、古い障子紙がご覧のとおり、ぺろんと剥がれます。
Old glue dissolves and old paper can be torn easily.
水で溶いた糊を、桟に筆で塗っていきます。
丁寧に塗らないと、あとで障子紙が浮いてしまいますが、のんびりやっていると、糊が乾いていってしまいます。
Apply the new glue dissolved in water to the frames with a brush.
If I do it carelessly, the paper will not be stuck well, but if do it slowly, the glue will dry out.
新しい障子紙を貼ります。
緊張の一瞬。
Paste the new paper on the frame.
カッターで切ります。
Cut the paper.
左が古い障子紙で、右が新しい障子紙。
これでまた、明るいお部屋で旅人たちをお迎えできます。
