先日、９月４日はゲストハウス若葉屋をお休みにして、夫婦で島へ行ってきました。
We had a holiday on 4th September and visited an island.
目指すは、伊吹島。
香川県西部の観音寺（かんおんじ）市から船で30分ぐらいです。
The destination is Ibukijima island.
It takes about 30 minutes by boat from Kan’onji city, western Kagawa.
船の甲板には仏花と思われるお花と、香川の名産、しょうゆ豆が乗っていました。
ちなみに、天気は雨。

見えてきました、伊吹島。
Ibukijima island.
上陸してまず目につくのが、この原付の多さ！
伊吹島はプリンみたいな台状の島で、港からまずいきなり、急な坂があって、その坂を登り切ったところに住宅地が広がっています。
船が島に着くと、みんなこの原付に乗って、蜘蛛の子を散らすように坂道を上がっていきます。
その様子はなんかまるで、東南アジア。
自転車は一台も見かけませんでした。
Landing on the island, plenty of mini motorbikes!
When a ship arrive, the residents go up to the residential area on the top of tableland by mini bike all at once.
That scene is like in Southeast Asia.
On the other hand, we never saw bicycles on this very hilly island.
でも、伊吹島の魅力は原付じゃなくて、ここから水揚げされて、
But, the best fascination of Ibuki is not the minibike.
Ibuki island is famous for “them”.
“They” are landed from here and…
ここで加工される、
processed in this plant.
イリコです。
つまり、煮干しですね。
でも、今年の漁と加工は終わってしまっているので、桟橋も加工場もひっそりとしています。
“They” are dried small sardines, called “iriko” in Japanese.
When we visited Ibuki, this year’s all fishing and processing has done already.
So, the piers and plants were quiet.

伊吹島はお地蔵さんの多い島でもありました。

There are many Jizo in Ibuki.
あと、小学校の卒業記念として、時計があちこちにありました。
And clocks also.
伊吹島には川や池がなく、地面が硬くて井戸も掘れないことから、長年、天水に頼ってきたそう。
今は海底導水管で水道がありますが、天水に頼っていた頃の名残か、こういうのを発見。
The residents used to depend on only rainwater like this picture because there is no river and pond in the island and it was impossible to dig a well too.
Now they can use tap water carried from the mainland through the marine water conduit.
イリコの時季以外に来てしまったあなたにおすすめなのが、この民俗資料館。
割とどこの地域にもこういうのがありますが、伊吹島民俗資料館はなにかと興味深いものが多く、長居してしまいました。
We recommend this folk museum in the former preschool.
This museum is so interesting for us that we stayed there long.
伊吹島の人口ピラミッド。
その変化は残酷なまでに顕著です。
昔はほとんどが子どもだったんですね。

Its change is remarkable cruelly.
Most of the population was children at one time.
伊吹島のお産について、香川大学が調査した資料に読みふける。
産後の母児がしばらく、島の女性たちと共同生活する出部屋（でべや）という場所がかつて、ありました。
My wife reads research material about birth in old days in Ibuki.
伊吹島で見つけた素敵な廃車。

漁協で買える、伊吹いりこTシャツ。
お土産に買ってきましたが、島民のこのTシャツの着用率は異様に高い！
これ来て、原付に乗ってます。
I bought this “Ibuki iriko” T-shirt as my own souvenir at the Fisheries Cooperative office.
The residents also wear this original T-shirt and ride minibikes anywhere.
