コロナ禍でお客さんを迎えることが少なくなった反面、設備やウェブサイトを更新する時間が手に入りました。
更新するのは、設備やウェブサイトだけではありません。
宿主の頭も更新です。

これまで、海外からの旅人さんたちを多く、迎えてきました。
英語での会話は十分、通じていますし、困ることはありません。
フランス語での会話も未熟ですが、チェックインの手続きや館内案内ぐらいには十分です。
We have welcomed many guests from overseas.
We can communicate with each other in English well and there is no problem.
My French is not very good but enough for check-in procedures and the guidance about our facilities.
しかし、困っていないからといって、普段使っている言い回しや、単語の使い方が適切であるかは、また別の話。
会話の現場である若葉屋は英語の教室ではないですし、話し相手である旅人さんたちも英語の先生ではありません（英語の先生であることもありますが）。
言い回しや単語の使い方が間違っていても、それを誰かに訂正されることなく会話は順調に進みますし、私もわざわざ、復習したり単語を調べ直すことも、ほぼありませんでした。
However, “no problem” does not always mean that phrases and words I speak are appropriate.

I participated in training for those who attend to foreign visitors to improve my English.
扱われる単語はどれも、知っている基本的な単語ですし、扱われる言い回しもどれも、言われればわかるものばかりでした。
しかし恥ずかしながら、これまで和製英語だと知らずに使っていた単語もあれば、聞けばわかるけど、自分では使ったことのない言い回しも数多くありました。
研修で配布されたテキストなどを読み返しながら、頭の更新作業です。

日本にやってきたフランス語話者が使うための本なので、立場が逆なのですが、単語の勉強、復習になりますし、巻末のコラムも興味深いです。

This book is for a French-speaking visitor to Japan, but I can enrich my French vocabulary, and the columns about Japanese culture written in French and Japanese are interesting.
さて、私の英語、フランス語のお勉強が早いか、会話の現場が戻ってくるのが早いか。
