若葉屋の玄関扉を開いて、まず目に入るはずの座卓が、ありません。
When you open the front door of Wakabaya, the low table, which you should see first is not there.
いつもここで座卓を挟んでチェックインをし、そのままお茶でも飲みながら、「さて、明日はどこへ行こうかな」という旅の話になっていきます。
話題は旅だけでなく、海苔の話、神社の話、漢字の話、村上春樹の話、少子高齢化社会の話、スリランカの話と、いろんな話が繰り広げられました。
また、ここでは、スーパーのお惣菜をみんなでつついたり、カレーのおすそ分けがあったり、ビールと骨付鳥で一杯やったり、釣ってきた魚でアラ汁を作って食べた旅人もいました。

Two lacquerware craftsmen (father and son) from Nakata Shikki came to pick it up.
Father looked at the table, touched and tried to lift it up,
“Wow, it’s heavy! Such an old table brings me back old days.”
お話を聞くと、この座卓は紫檀でできていて、漆塗りで、おそらく50年ぐらい前に香川県内で造られたものではないか、と。
最近ではなかなか、こういうのは造られていないそう。
He said, this table is made of rosewood, lacquered, and was probably made about 50 years ago in Kagawa.
This kind of table is not made a lot now.
この座卓は、若葉屋を建ててくれた佐伯工務店で長らく眠っていて、それを若葉屋の開業前に譲っていただいたものです。
The table had lain for a long in the warehouse of the carpenters’ company, which constructed Wakabaya.
They kindly gave it to us before opening Wakabaya.
これから中田漆木さんの工房で1ヶ月ぐらい掛けて、塗りと乾燥を5回ほど繰り返されます。
The low table will be lacquered and dried repeatedly about five times in Nakata Shikki for a month.
