ここ、香川県高松市で全国シェアの8割を生産する、ある伝統産業があります。
それは、うどんではなくて、松盆栽。
一般的にはあまり知られていなくても、松盆栽と言えば、高松なのです。
高松が誇れる伝統産業であり、私もこれまで、気にはなっていた高松の盆栽。
Here, Takamatsu city has a traditional industry, whose market share is as much as 80% in Japan.
It is not udon.
It is a pine bonsai.
This our proud tradition had been on my mind for a long.
ようやく、お近づきになれました。
バイヤーやコアな愛好家でなくても、迎えてくれる盆栽園、中西珍松園があると聞き、行ってきました。
盆栽の基礎知識もまったくないまま、園内をゆっくりまわって、盆栽を愛でます。
その後、お部屋で五代目ご当主としばし、歓談。
ここでは盆栽を購入することもできるのですが、海外旅行者の場合、検疫の関係で、植物を合法的に自国へ持ち帰ることは、かなり難しいそう。
つまり、ゲストハウス若葉屋から海外のお客さんを紹介して訪ねたところで、中西珍松園さんの売上にはなりません。
それでも、中西珍松園さんは海外のお客さんに対して、ウェルカムなのです。
今は盆栽を買って帰らなくても、まずは盆栽の魅力に気づいてもらうことで、将来的には盆栽業界の発展につながるはず、との思いがあるから、ウェルカムなのです。
I could get closer to bonsai at last.
We visited a bonsai artisan’s field, which welcomes not only professional buyers.
After walking around their firm, I talked with the artisan, Mr. Yoichi NAKANISHI for a while.
Though it is possible to purchase bonsai here, it is quite difficult for foreign tourists to carry it home legally because of quarantine.
It means that even if the guesthouse wakabaya introduces it to our guest and he visits there, it doesn’t bring sales to them.
Still, they welcome foreign tourists.
They cannot buy bonsai at that time, however, bonsai culture will be more popular by just attracting people for the first time.
He says that and this is why they welcome foreigners also.

石を用いた彫刻が屋内外に配置された美術館です。
若葉屋に来られるお客さんにも、ときどき、ここを目指す方がおられます。

作品の写真は撮れないので、こちらは受付のある建物の写真です。
作品には、美術館でよく見かけるような、説明プレートは一切、ありません。
イサム・ノグチ曰く、言葉による説明を敢えてせずに、ただ、感じてほしい、と。

アクセス
ゲストハウス若葉屋からだと、路線バス一本で行けて、おすすめです。
若葉屋近くの「高予備前」から乗って「祈り岩与一公園前」下車。
祈り岩与一公園前からは450mです。
You can get there from wakabaya to the museum by local bus directly.

イサムノグチ庭園美術館近くの、山田家にも久々に行きました。
ここはうどん好きも行きますが、水曜どうでしょう好きにとっても聖地ですね。
若葉屋のお客さんで、「こっちが、洋ちゃんが座った席ね」と店員さんに案内された方も。
店員さんもよくわかっていらっしゃる。
