7月１０日。ゲストハウス若葉屋の開業記念日をすっかり忘れて過ごしてしまいました。というか、ほぼ毎年、忘れています。
July 10th. I completely forgot that it was the anniversary of our Guest House Wakabaya. We forget the anniversary almost every year.
ゴールデンウィーク明けから休業（育休）中の若葉屋なので、お客さんが誰もいない開業記念日でした。代わりに、我が家には双子が生まれて子どもが5人に増えています。
Wakabaya has been closed for childcare since the end of Golden Week, so there were no guests on our anniversary. Instead, we now have twins, which means we have five children in total.
そんな子どもたちの中で長男・幸太郎は若葉屋がオープンした年に生まれました。幸太郎誕生の翌月、若葉屋オープン当初の常連さんから赤ちゃん用の肌着をいただきました。そのときのブログ記事がこちら。
Among those children, the eldest son, Kotaro, was born in the year that Wakabaya opened. The month after Kotaro was born, we received a baby cloth from a couple of our regular guests. Here is the blog post at that time.
幸太郎が赤ちゃんで、同じく若葉屋も開業まもない赤ちゃんだったときです。
It was when Kotaro was a baby, and Wakabaya was also a newborn.
あれから11年。その肌着は私たちも予期せず今も現役で、今度は双子の赤ちゃんが着ています。
Eleven years have passed since then. Unexpectedly, that babywear is still used today and is now worn by twin babies.
そしてその肌着を着ている妹たちを、今年11歳になる幸太郎が上手に抱っこしています。ああ、11年の年月が経ったんだなあ、幸太郎も大きくなったもんだなあ、と感じたところです。
And Kotaro, who will turn 11 this year, is warmly holding his younger sisters wearing that baby wear. I feel that 11 years have passed, and Kotaro has grown up.
さて、大きいといえばこのスイカ。このスイカも10年来、若葉屋に泊まりに来てくださっている常連さんから出産祝いにいただいたものです。
By the way, this watermelon grew well, too. This was a congratulatory gift from another regular guest who has been visiting Wakabaya for 10 years.
スイカの産地で生まれ育った妻の特技は、スイカをきれいに真っ二つに切ることです。
My wife was born and raised in a watermelon-producing region, and her special skill is cutting watermelons neatly in half.
幸い、若葉屋の冷蔵庫は休業中で空っぽだったので、この巨大スイカもご覧のとおり冷やせました。ごちそうさまでした。
Fortunately, the refrigerator in Wakabaya, which had been closed for months, was empty. So, as you can see, we were able to chill this huge watermelon. Thank you!
さて、スイカとほぼ同じころにリクルートさん（宿泊予約サイト「じゃらんnet」の運営会社）から何かが届きました。なんとありがたいことに、ゲストハウス若葉屋は「じゃらん OF THE YEAR 泊まって良かった宿大賞 都道府県部門 総合 （香川県 １〜50室）」で一位になりました！ 次男・喜一に「リクルートさん」になってもらって、贈呈式。
At around the same time, we received something else from Recruit, the operator of the online booking website Jalan-net. Guest House Wakabaya had won first place in the ‘Best Accommodation Award, Prefectural Division, Overall’ category for Kagawa Prefecture (1–50 rooms)! I asked our second son, Kiichi, to be a Mr Recruit for the ceremony.
去年、じゃらんでの若葉屋の掲載ページの改善を進めたのが功を奏したのか、じゃらん経由での予約状況がよくなってきた気がしていました。そこで、まさかの受賞。ありがたいことです。たぶんこれでじゃらんでの若葉屋の露出が上がったはずなのですが、このとおり若葉屋はのんびりと育休中というわけです。まあ、よいのです。
We updated Wakabaya’s listing on Jalan-net last year, which I felt was successful. Then, much to our surprise, we won the award. We are very grateful. This should increase Wakabaya’s exposure on Jalan-net, but, as you know, Wakabaya is currently on a childcare break. Never mind.
と、育休中のできごとをこのブログ記事も書き始めてから今日、公開するまでになんと１ヶ月もかかってしまいました。それぐらいてんやわんやの日々です。
It’s been a month since I started writing this blog post about our childcare break experiences, and it’s finally being posted today. That’s how hectic my days have been!
