A Happy New Year 2022

Our Guests

It was the 8th New Year’s Eve since the opening of Guest House Wakabaya.

Some guests started making soba, buckwheat noodles in Wakabaya’s living room.

They visited Wakabaya to do it.

It was a quiet New Year holiday last year because we welcomed only one group guest per day at that time, but thankfully, we are continuously almost fully booked for a week this year.

A small handmade “kagami mochi” (a rice cake decoration) and round dolls of tiger (2022 is the year of the tiger in Asia) made by our sons welcome many guests in the New Year holidays.

Japanese people traditionally eat long soba noodles on New Years’ Eve, hoping for long life.

It was an impressive New Year’s Eve.

Thank you, 2021.

The next morning.

A happy new year, 2022!

We serve traditional special New Year’s food, “zouni”, a cake soup, and “amazake”, a fermented rice drink for our guests.

A family of four enjoyed those New Year’s food and drink in our family room.

Most of our guests during the New Year holidays are families.

Not only young families with small children but also families with big children in their 20s and 30s.

It is wonderful that a family growing older goes on a trip together at peace and try to stay at the guesthouse.
