高速バス

四国の各県庁所在地（高松市、松山市、徳島市、高知市）間を移動するなら、JRの特急列車よりも高速バスが安くて便利です。特に高知〜松山間は高速バスの方が早く、その他の区間もバスが特急列車より若干遅いぐらいです。学割も効きます。

Express Bus

If travelling between Shikoku’s major cities (Takamatsu, Matsuyama, Kōchi, Tokushima) without a rail pass, express buses are cheaper and more convenient than JR limited express trains. The express bus is particularly faster between Kōchi and Matsuyama, while on other routes the bus is only slightly slower than the limited express train.

If you’re planning to travel mainly in Shikoku, the ALL SHIKOKU Rail Pass offers great value. Not only is the pass valid for JR trains in Shikoku, but it also covers other local private railways, such as the Kotoden in Takamatsu. Make sure you also experience the ferry to Shodoshima and the Shodoshima Olive Bus. What’s more, the pass offers discounts on buses between Kochi and Matsuyama and on ferries between Tokushima and Wakayama.

If you are travelling further afield, not just in Shikoku, then the Kansai WIDE Area Pass and the Setouchi Area Pass are also recommended. Both passes include Takamatsu, Okayama, Kobe, Osaka and Kyoto, as well as Kansai Airport. The Setouchi pass also includes Matsuyama, Hiroshima and Hakata, as well as some ferry routes.
