満潮、もしくは干潮時刻に大きなうず潮が見られます。これは、満潮のときに太平洋から瀬戸内海へと海水が流れ込み、干潮のときに瀬戸内海から太平洋へと海水が流れ出るときに、狭くなった鳴門海峡を大量の海水が流れて渦が巻くからです。なので、満潮と干潮のちょうど間の時間帯だと、太平洋と瀬戸内海との間で海水の流れ（潮の動き）が止まってしまって、渦は巻きません。潮見表を確認してみましょう。

また、大潮（満月、新月）であれば、月と地球と太陽が一直線に並んで潮の満ち引きが特に大きくなるため、うず潮も特大になります。

天気は関係ないので、雨でも大丈夫。

橋より観潮船 Take a small boat

うず潮を橋の上から510円と安価で見られますが、1,600円を払って船から見たほうが断然、おすすめです。観潮船にも何種類かあって、その中でもおすすめなのは、うずしお汽船です。理由は、うずしお汽船の観潮船は小型なので、海面からの距離が近く、大迫力のうず潮を目の前で楽しむことができるからです。なお、乗船の事前予約は不要かつ不可能です。

ちなみに、観潮船がうず潮に吸い込まれてしまうことはありませんので、ご安心を。
