瀬戸内国際芸術祭2019が閉幕して、１週間が経ちました。
おかげさまで、ゲストハウス若葉屋でも連日、国内外から多くの旅人たちをお迎えしてきました。
私は毎晩、毎晩、全航路の時刻表と公式ガイドブックとを居間の座卓に広げながら、各島々の特徴と歴史、混雑状況、島間・島内のアクセス、美術館の予約などのご案内をしてきました。
107日間、ほぼ同じような行き先についてご案内することが、私にとっての日常となりました。
A week has passed since the Setouchi Triennale 2019 closed.
Thankfully, Guest House Wakabaya also had welcomed many Japanese and foreign guests every day.
I had advised them the better itinerary to the islands by showing boat timetables and the official guidebook every night and it was my usual work for 107 days.
他方、瀬戸芸を目指してやって来られた旅人たちにとっては、それはそれは楽しみに待ち望んできた、非日常的な旅。
その非日常的な旅は、海外からの訪日旅行客にとっては、さらに非日常的であり、どんなにわくわくして来られたかと想像します。
On the other hand, for our guests, it was an unusual journey, to which they had been looking forward.
And it must be more unusual for foreign visitors.
夜、居間で日記を書いている旅人をときどき、見かけることがあります。
その日に見た風景、食べたもの、しゃべったひとなど、新鮮な非日常を書き留めているのでしょう。
日記を書きながら見ている、この若葉屋の居間ですら、旅人にとっては非日常的な空間のはず。
I sometimes see the guests writing diaries in our living room.
They likely write about something fresh unusual experiences on that day such as what they saw, what they ate and with whom they talked.
Even this living room where they write is an unusual space.
旅人を迎える私にとっての日常は、旅人にとっては非日常。
この感覚は、旅人を迎える私たちにとっては、本当に大切な感覚だと思っています。
だから、107日間、毎晩、毎晩、同じようなご案内をしてきましたが、常に新鮮味をもって、ひとりひとりとお話をしてきたつもりです。
Usual time for me welcoming a traveler is an unusual time for a traveler.
I believe that this feeling should be necessary for the hosts.
That is why I had always tried to freshly talk with our guests even about almost the same subject every night.
瀬戸芸が閉幕してからの若葉屋のお客さんは、一日数組程度。
祭りが終わったような静けさで、これはこれで、結構好きなのですが…。
Since the Triennale closed, we have few guests every day and it is like the silence after the festival.
さあ、次は私たちの番です！
Now, it’s our turn!
家族旅行でマカオ、父子ふたり旅で桂林、さらにひとり旅でインド南部を巡ります。
毎日、宿や荷物の確認を進めながら、みんな、旅を楽しみにしています。
（２歳の次男だけはまだわかってなさそうですが）
We will travel to Macao with my family, to Guiling with my 5-year-old son, and to South India alone.
We are looking forward to it while checking stuff and itineraries every day.
(However, only our 2-year-old son does not know yet what is going on.)
