休館日じゃない？ Is the museum open?
美術館などのアートサイトについて、基本的に、直島は月曜定休、豊島は火曜定休（冬季は火、水、木）、犬島は火、水、木曜日が定休です。連休やメンテナンスなどの影響で変則になることもあるので、開館カレンダーは必ず、確認しておきましょう。
Usually, the main art sites in Naoshima 直島 close Mondays, in Teshima 豊島 Tuesdays (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in winter), and Inujima 犬島 also close Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Their holidays may change depending on the season, Japanese national holidays, and maintenance. Be sure to check their opening day on the Art Site Calendar in advance.
事前予約制の美術館 Museums require the online booking
直島の地中美術館と杉本博司ギャラリー時の回廊、さらに、豊島美術館はオンラインでの事前予約制です。繁忙日に予約なしで行った場合は、長時間待たされたり、当日整理券が完売していれば入館できないこともあります。連休や夏休みなどは数日前でも完売することがありますので、必ず事前予約していきましょう。入館の30分前まで、購入が可能です。
Chichu Art Museum 地中美術館 and the Hiroshi Sugimoto Gallery Time Corridor in Naoshima and Teshima Art Museum 豊島美術館 in Teshima require visitors to purchase online tickets in advance. Without the advance purchase, the visitor might have to queue for a long or the ticket might be sold out on busy days such as weekends, national holidays, and summer vacations. Online ticket is available until 30 minutes before the visit.
島で泊まってみる Stay overnight on the island
高松と島とを何度も往復するよりも、島から島へと直接、渡ったほうが時間と船代を節約できます。本数は多くないですが、小豆島〜豊島、豊島〜直島は直行の船があります。
島へのアクセス
An island hopper does not always have to come back to Takamatsu 高松 every evening but can hop from the island to another island directory to save time and boat fare. Not frequent but the direct boats run between Shodoshima 小豆島 – Teshima 豊島 and Teshima 豊島 – Naoshima 直島.

島で宿泊すれば、移動を減らすことができるだけでなく、多くの旅行者が高松や宇野へ帰ったあとの静かな島時間を楽しめます。さらに、直島であれば地中美術館のオープンスカイ・ナイトプログラム（要予約。人気。金・土曜の日没前後のみ。）や、ベネッセハウスミュージアムのギャラリーツアー（予約不要。毎日1６:00から。）などの、夕方限定の鑑賞ツアーも時間を気にすることなく、楽しめます。
The overnight guest can enjoy quiet island time after seeing off many tourists back for Takamatsu and Uno. Moreover, overnight guests in Naoshima can join the Open Night Sky Museum in the Chichu Art Museum (advance reservation required / sunset time on Friday & Saturday) and the Gallery Tour in the Benesse House Museum (reservation not required / everyday from 17:00 / only Japanese guide) without caring time.
有料鑑賞ツアー Join the paid tour
現代アートや建築、島の自然や歴史などを深く知りたい方は、有料の鑑賞ツアーがおすすめです。ツアー日程は改って決まっていて、要予約。最少催行人数は概ね、２人です。
If you understand Japanese and would like to know the modern art, architecture, and history of the islands, pay guided tours are recommended. The tour day is fixed and advance booking is required. The guide is only Japanese.
岡山・宇野港も便利 Okayama is also connected
直島と豊島は高松港からよりも、岡山の宇野港からの方が近く、船の本数も多いです。宇野港とJR宇野駅は至近。
島へのアクセス
Naoshima 直島 and Teshima 豊島 are closer rather to Uno 宇野 in Okayama 岡山 than to Takamatsu 高松. And Uno Port has more frequent boats to those islands and is very close to JR Uno Station.

船乗り場と高松〜豊島の船は要注意 Tricky boats
船は車も載せられる大きなフェリーと、徒歩客しか乗れない小さな高速艇・小型旅客船に分けられます。船の構造も大きさも全く異なるため、乗り場も異なり、まあまあ離れている場合もあります。島旅をする方は出航時間と行き先だけでなく、船の種類と乗り場を必ず、事前確認しておきましょう。
Ships are divided into two types: big ferries that can also carry cars, and small high-speed boats or passenger boats that can only accommodate passengers. Since the structure and size of boats are completely different, the boarding piers are also different and can be quite far apart. If you are going on an island trip, be sure to check in advance not only the departure time and destination but also the type of boat and boarding pier.
高松・豊島間の船は「豊島フェリー」という名前ですが、高速艇です。自転車やバイク、自動車は載せられません。さらに、曜日や季節によって高速艇のダイヤが変わります。すごくわかりにくいです。間違いなく確認しておきましょう。
The boat between Takamatsu and Teshima is named “Teshima Ferry,” but it is a small high-speed boat. Bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles cannot be loaded. Furthermore, the boat schedule changes depending on the day and the season. Very confusing. Make sure to check it for sure.

A rental bicycle is convenient in Naoshima and Teshima. On busy days such as consecutive holidays and summer vacations, it is recommended to make reservations in advance.

犬島へは岡山からも Inujima from Okayama
高松〜犬島間は直行便がないため、直島か豊島で船の乗り換えをして、往復で5,000円ぐらいします。一方、岡山の宝伝港〜犬島は片道400円で、船の本数は直島・豊島〜犬島よりも多いです。4月から11月までは、犬島精錬所美術館が開館している主に金、土、日、月曜日に限って、JR岡山駅〜西宝伝間に直行バスが一往復のみ運行されます。西宝伝バス停から宝伝港までは徒歩5分。

Since there are no direct boats between Takamatsu and Inujima, you need to transfer a boat at Naoshima or Teshima, and the round-trip costs about 5,000 yen. On the other hand, a one-way trip from Hoden Port in Okayama to Inujima costs only 400 yen, and the boat runs more frequently. If you visit Inujima between April and November, a direct bus service between JR Okayama Station and Nishi Hoden Bus Stop is available on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays, when the Inujima Seirensho Museum is open. It is a 5-minute walk from the Nishi Hoden bus stop to Hoden Port.
