Most of our guests enjoy udon noodles in the morning at this local udon restaurant “Udon Baka Ichidai”. [See Sanuki Udon]

Wakabaya does not serve breakfast but Udon Baka Ichidai is located at only a 5-minute walk from Wakabaya and opens from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Closed on 2nd and 4th Wednesday.

You may need to queue for as long as three hours during the Japanese “Golden Week”, “Obon” festival, and holidays. [See Japanese Holidays]

On those busy days, I even recommend our guests to go to the restaurant at 5:30 a.m. before they open, queue only for 30 minutes, eat udon, come back to Wakabaya, and take a short morning nap.


  1. 繁忙日は朝早く行って並びましょう。
  2. サイズは大、中、小。中を選びがちですが、中は2玉なので、空腹でさえなければ、小(1玉)で十分です。
  3. 釜バターうどんの黒胡椒は少なめにしてもらうことをおすすめしています。粗挽きなので胡椒は少なめでも存在感は十分で、多いと、せっかくの釜バターうどんの味や風味がかき消されてしまうので。
  4. 釜バターうどんは朝一番で胃に収めると、ちょっとヘビーかも。そういう場合は、バターの入っていない釜玉うどんや、シンプルなかけうどん、肉ぶっかけうどんなどもおすすめですよ。お腹と相談してみてください。

We advise the following four points to our guests.

  1. On busy days, go to the restaurant and queue earlier than other tourists do.
  2. They have three sizes; large, medium, and small. “Small” is enough for breakfast. If you are hungry, choose “Medium”.
  3. If you order “Kama Butter Udon”, their specialty and introduced on the YouTube video, have staff put less pepper on the udon. Their coarsely ground pepper may be too hot to udon.
  4. Kama Butter Udon with butter and raw egg may be too heavy for breakfast, especially for Western people. We recommend “Kamatama Udon” without butter, “Niku Bukkaké Udon” with stewed beef, or the simplest “Kaké Udon”.
