昨日、ドミトリーに2人でのご予約が入りました。
到着されたのは、ヒッチハイクで鳥取から来られた男女。
「お二人でしたら、少し狭いですが4畳の個室でも6,000円で、ドミトリーと同じ料金ですけど」と、ご案内してみたところ、「すみません、僕たち、友人なんです」とのこと。
それは、失礼しました。
We received a reservation for 2 beds in the dormitory yesterday.
A young man and woman arrived here from Tottori by hitchhiking.
I informed them, “You’re two people, so it costs 6,000 JPY for the small private, same as two beds in the dorm.”
Then he said, “No thanks, we’re just friends.”
ヒッチハイカーたちは高松のように、スケッチブックに行き先を書いて立っています。
が、彼のスケッチブックには、

と書かれていたので、思わず、写真を撮らせてもらいました。
行く先々でカップルかと思われて、いちいち説明するのが面倒なよう。

He wrote that because many people mistake them for a couple.
左側のヒッチハイクというのも、珍しいボードです。
ヒッチハイクがそんなに一般的ではない日本では、親指を立てて行き先ボードを持っているだけでは何をやっているのか理解されないことがあって、このボードも作ったそうです。
しかも、このボードは裏面が粘着シールになっているので、これを体に貼り付けて立っているとのこと。

In Japan, hitchhiking is not common, so he made this to explain it to drivers.
Moreover, this big board is adhesive.
He pastes it on his body and stands by the roadside.
