さて、松山を後にし、大洲（おおず）市にやって来ました。
伊予大洲駅を出て東へ15分ほど歩き、肱川（ひじかわ）を越えると、伊予の小京都が広がります。
町並みの広さは、散策するには丁度いいぐらい。
すぐにこの町が好きになりました。
I came to Ozu from Matsuyama.
After 15 minutes of walking from Iyo-Ozu Station, a historic town, sometimes called “Little Kyoto” spreads over the Hijikawa River.
The size of the town is quite nice for a stroll.
I immediately liked this town.

肱川のほとりに、臥龍山荘（がりゅうさんそう）が見えます。

Garyu Sanso (a small Japanese cottage with a garden) can be seen on the river bank.

肱川沿いを歩くと、瓦屋根の石垣が続きます。
何かと思えば、これ、氾濫から町を守るための堤防なのです。
大洲は、官民を上げて、町並みの維持管理と賑わいづくりに励んでいる印象が感じられます。
While walking along the Hijikawa riverbank, we see the long stone wall with Japanese tile roofs.
This is an embankment to protect the town from flooding.
Ozu seems to try to preserve and enliven the townscape not only administratively but also in private sections.
まさかの、外観写真を撮らずに、内観写真だけを撮ってしまった、大洲城。
でもそれぐらい、大洲城は特別だったのです。
城の価値は当然、「現存天守＞復元天守」と思うでしょ。
大洲城の天守は平成の世に復元されました。
しかも、木造で、完璧に。
幸い、オリジナル天守の史料や模型が残されていたとは言え、それを蘇らせるとは、なんと素晴らしいことか！
そういうわけで、まだ新しい白木の柱や梁の写真を撮ったのです。
大洲城、行くべきです。
Surprisingly, I took photos of Ozu Castle only inside, not outside because it was special.
You think that the original castle should be more valuable than the restored one, don’t you?
Ozu Castle was restored in 2004.
Very new but restored only with wood faithfully like the original.
Fortunately, even though the historical materials and models were preserved, how wonderful it is to revive them!
That is why I took pictures of the still-new wooden structures inside.

夜は、ゲストハウスのオーナーさんに教えてもらった、地元の居酒屋さんへ。
I went to a local izakaya for dinner, which the guesthouse owner suggested.
鯛めし定食をいただきます。
追加でアマギの唐揚げを食べました。
めちゃくちゃ、うまかった。
I had a sea bream set meal and fried fish.
So tasty!
夜の大洲もいい。
だから、泊まったほうがいい。
Night walk in Ozu is also nice.
So, you should overnight in Ozu.

三瀬さんの大洲愛の評判は、旅人を通して伝え聞いてはいましたが、いやあ、すごい。
大洲愛は、ただ、情報として大洲のことを知っている、ということではないのです。

さて翌日、大洲でレンタカーを借りまして、

やって来ましたは、宇和島市、遊子水荷浦（ゆすみずがうら）の段畑。
「宇和島に友人が来たら、段畑へ連れていきます」と、以前、宇和島からのお客さんから聞いていました。
この家々の後ろの斜面、全部が段畑です。

One of our guests from Uwajima had recommended me it.
The hillside behind the houses is all terraced fields.
こんな感じ。
栽培しているのは意外と、ジャガイモ。
3月に収穫してしまうので、2月が一番、青々としていてベストシーズンなのだと、だんだん屋（段畑を守ろう会）のおばちゃんが教えてくれました。
Surprisingly, potatoes are grown, not rice.
A local shop lady (a member of the terrace preservation group) told me that it is the greenest in February because potatoes are harvested in March.

さらに車を走らせまして、愛南町は、外泊（そとどまり）の石垣の里。
いやあ、ここも立派。
男木島の集落に比べて、こちらの石垣は小さな城かというぐらい強固なのは、台風への備えでしょうか。
ただそれ以外に何があるわけでもなく、でも敢えて、こういうところの民宿に泊まるのも面白いかもしれません。
Driving a car further, I arrived at Ishigaki-no-Sato (Stone-Walled Village) in Sotodomari, Ainan.
Compared to another stone-walled village in Ogijima island, these great stone walls look sturdier such as a small castle.
There is nothing else but it might be interesting to stay in a private residence inn.

SETOUCHI Finder – Sotodomari Ishigaki-no Sato

遊子水荷浦も、外泊も、半島のほぼ先端にあるため、四国を一周するルートからは逸れるのが難点。
Both Yusu Mizugaura Terrace Field and Sotodomari Stone-Walled Village are located at the tips of each peninsula, so they are out of the round route of Shikoku.
さらに車を走らせて高知県に入り、大月町の柏島です。
生憎の暴風雨でしたが、それでも、めったに見ることのないマリンブルーが広がっていて、テンションが上がります。
晴れて風がなければ、もっときれいだったはず。
ダイビングショップが何軒かある一方、海水浴ができそうな砂浜はそんなに広くありません。
I drove into Kochi Prefecture from Ehime and arrived at Kashiwajima Island, Otsuki.
Although it was storming, the amazing marine blue spreads there excited me a lot!
It would be much clearer under sunshine without wind.
While there are several diving shops, the beaches for swimming are not so long.

My second accommodation in my Western Shikoku trip was the Hotel Nangoku along Tatsukushi Coast, Tosashimizu.
この薄暗くて細い廊下！
古民家でも古い雑居ビルでも、オシャレにデザインされたゲストハウスが流行る昨今、逆に、こういうホテルにたどり着けたことに、喜びを感じます。
でも案外、Wi-Fi完備で、PayPay払いもできて、朝食夕食も悪くなく、大浴場もあるので、不足は無し！
What a dim and narrow corridor is!
While even an abandoned house and empty office building can be renovated fashionably for a cool guest house these days, I felt rather lucky to reach such an old dim hotel.
Wi-Fi is available, breakfast and dinner are not bad, a large shared bath relaxed me well.
