先日、久しぶりに四国村へ行ってきました。
お目当ては、大久野島灯台。
ここに、瀬戸内国際芸術祭の作品として、シカゴの美術大学生の映像作品があります。
I visited Shikoku-mura in Takamatsu after a long time, an open-aired museum of Japanese traditional houses.
What I wanted to see was Okunojima Lighthouse.
その灯台の入口に、キャプション(作品説明)があって、「協力：若宮武、玉浦功次、香川で出会ったすべての方々」と書かれています。
この作品を制作された学生アーティストは、しばらくの間、ゲストハウス若葉屋に滞在されたお客さんです。
若葉屋に滞在されている間、彼女にここ、香川の歴史や風土をお話したり、また、地元の漁師である玉浦さんをご紹介したりしました。
どうやら、これらの出会いが彼女の作品制作につながったようで、「協力/Special Thanks」に私たちの名前が入ることになりました。
光栄なことです。
ゲストハウスの宿主として、瀬戸芸に関わってはきましたが、まさか、瀬戸芸の一作品のキャプションに名前が記されることになるとは。
ゲストハウスの仕事をしていると、いろんなことがあるものです。
There is a video artwork of the Setouchi Triennale by an art college student from Chicago and the caption says “Special Thanks: Takeshi Wakamiya, Koji Tamaura and everyone and place I have encountered in Kagawa”.
The artist was a guest who stayed at Guest House Wakabaya for several days.
While she stayed, I talked about our local history, climate and introduced her a local fisherman, Mr. Tamaura.
These encounters seem to have given her some ideas for the creation and our name was entered in the Special Thanks, which is our honor.
I had never imagined that my name would be written on the artwork caption.
My work as a guesthouse host sometimes brings me surprising presents.
