What is Nakagusuku Castle?

Owner's Works

I stayed at a small guesthouse in Naha, Okinawa two years ago and planned to visit the ruin of Nakagusuku Castle by a rental motorcycle.
When I asked the guesthouse staff “How long will it take to get to the Nakagusuku Castle by bike?”, her answer was “What is the Nakagusuku Castle?”
That castle is located about 20km northeast of the guesthouse and registered as the World Heritage.
It is not so far and is not supposed to be an unknown place.

I was disappointed.

Here is the common space in Guest House Wakabaya.
This local information not only about Kagawa Prefecture but also about the whole Shikoku area welcomes our guests.
Udon noodle, Ritsurin Garden, Konpirasan Shrine, modern arts in the islands, ohenro pilgrimage, motorbike/bicycle travel, architecture, bookstore, immigration, handcraft, hiking, history, drone, geology, local development, photograph, classical café, train, castle, shopping, bonsai, animal, ancient tombs and so on.
I have intended to offer tips about any subject in which our guests are interested.

One of yesterday’s topics with our guests was “OZAKI Hosai (a poet) in Shodoshima” and “Mesa (geological) on Mt. Yashima)”.

Both Japanese and foreign tourists intentionally choose Takamatsu to visit among so many possible destinations, for something.

And they intentionally choose this small Guest House Wakabaya to stay among so many accommodations in Takamatsu, for something.

That is why we hope that they will be happy to visit Takamatsu and to stay at Wakabaya.
We satisfy “something” they expect, even niche purpose.
If possible, satisfy more than they expect.
Never disappoint them.
It is our way as a small guesthouse owner in my hometown.

The result of our approach to “something” what guests expect is that brochure wall rack.
Three years have passed since I made it but we still look for new and better brochures and move unnecessary away.

By the way, above the wall rack is the sign of Toursit Information certificated by Japan National Tourism Organization.

We took out it because many of our guests said, “This guesthouse is almost tourist information!”
Wakabaya has been the certificated Tourist Information since May 2018.

More brochures are stocked in the storeroom.
We tidy and update them during the low season.
