以前、幸太郎（4歳）と一緒に、84番札所屋島寺まで、ことでん潟元駅から表遍路道を歩いて登り、旧遍路道（写真）を85番札所八栗寺方面に向けて歩いたことがあります。
屋島を自分で歩いて登って、下りて、おまけにお遍路さんを追い抜いたことが、彼にとっては大きな自信になったよう。
その後も若葉屋に来られるお遍路さんたちに、このことを自慢げに話します。
じゃあ、その続きをやってみようか、ということになりまして。
I’ve walked up with our 4-year-old son “Kotaro” to the 84th pilgrimage temple “Yashima-ji” on Mt. Yashima and down.
Great experiences for him to walk up and down with his own legs and in addition got ahead of an adult pilgrim on the path made him much confident.
Since that, he often talks proudly about his small adventure with Wakabaya’s pilgrim guests.
Now, we decided to continue his adventure from the 85th.
85番札所八栗寺には、お楽しみが2つ、あります。
ひとつめは、こちら。
うどん本陣山田家。
若葉屋からバスでことでん八栗駅前まで行き、そこから歩いて到着。
ふたりでわかめうどん＋天ぷら＋鯖寿司という、豪華なセットを食べました。
The way for 85th “Yakuri-ji” has two attractions for him.
The first is this superior udon restaurant “Yamadaya”.
We walked from Yakuri Station to Yamadaya and enjoyed a good udon set menu with tempura and sushi.
山田屋からは、本来であれば、歩くところですが、鉄道好きとしては、ケーブルカーに乗らないわけにはいかないので、乗ります。
これがふたつめのお楽しみ。
当然、先頭でかぶりつきです。
とは言え、八栗駅からケーブルカーの乗り場までも既に、2kmほど歩いています。
Formally, the pilgrim walk to the temple but a train fan could not keep away this classic cable car.
This is the second attraction; however, he already walked 2km to this cable car station.

現在地を確認。
八栗さんをお参りした後は、歩いて86番札所志度寺方面へと歩いて下ります。
道中、年配のお遍路さんご夫婦と知り合い、おしゃべりもしながら歩きます。
途中で疲れたら、ほぼ遍路道沿いに走ることでん志度線に乗って帰ればいい、と思っていました。
塩屋駅を通過し、道の駅むれも通過。
歩くまで知らなかったのですが、ばあちゃんの墓地の前も遍路道だったようで、ついでに墓参もします。
さらに、いとこの実家の前も通過し、原駅も通過。

After paying homage at the 85th Yakuri-ji Temple, we walked down for the 86th Shido-ji Temple.
We walked with talking with an old pilgrim couple whom we met on the way.
I thought that we could go back by train which runs along the pilgrimage route when Kotaro got tired on the way but we passed stations well.
I hadn’t known that the street in front of my grandma’s cemetery and my cousin’s house was also the pilgrimage route.
まったく疲れる様子もなく、途中、見つけた和菓子屋さんでいちご大福を食べて、この笑顔です。
私も歩いてお寺を回ったのは、先日の善通寺市内が初めてだったぐらい。
歩くと、こうやっていろんな商店もあったりして、楽しいですね。
Without any tiredness, he smiled with a Japanese sweet with a strawberry on the street.
When we walk, we can find out such a local shop.
さてこれは本当に歩き遍路ができるのかも知れないと思い、道中で見つけた表装店で納経帳を幸太郎のために、買いました。
“He might be able to really pilgrimage.”
At a pilgrimage store on the street, I bought a “nokyo-cho”, a book to collect the stamp and the signature at each temple for a 4-year-old boy.
あれよあれよと、6.5kmを歩いて、志度寺に到着。
お参りをしていると、「幸太郎くん！」と呼び止められます。
八栗寺からしばらく一緒だった、お遍路さんご夫婦でした。
幸太郎、名前を呼んでもらえるお遍路仲間ができました。
Surprisingly, we walked as long as 6.5km to Shido-ji Temple.
When we were praying there, someone called “Kotaro!”.
They were the couple whom we met on the route.
Kotaro has pilgrim friends who know his name.
お参りを済ませて、初めての納経。
うまい棒もくれました。
The first stamp and signature for him and me.
じゃ、ことでんに乗って帰るかと言うと、「まだ、歩きたい！いっぱい疲れても、絶対に、絶対に、長尾まで歩きたい！」と。
なぜそこまでの情熱を持って、彼が長尾まで歩きたいのかは謎です。
志度寺から長尾寺までは、さらに7kmあります。
“Good job, Kotaro! OK, let’s go back home by train!” I said.
“No, I want to walk more! Even if I get tired much, I walk to Nagao!”
I didn’t know what made him so passionate to walk to the next 87th Nagao-ji Temple.
The leg between the 86th and 87th has 7km.
途中、リタイアポイントとして、JR高徳線のオレンジタウン駅や造田駅も確認し、ラーメンで腹ごしらえもして、再出発。
道中、お遍路さんの休憩所で腰掛けて、休憩します。
I checked the stations along the route in case to retire, had late lunch, and restarted.
We took a short break in a small rest house for the pilgrim.
かれこれ、ケーブルカー乗り場までの2km+八栗寺からの11.3km、計13kmぐらい歩いて、まだこの表情。
幸太郎は4歳です。
He had walked about 13km up to this point with this smile.
Kotaro is 4 years old.
長尾寺に着いたときにはさすがに、疲れた表情で、17時の納経締切には間に合わなかったものの、一度もぐずることなく、八栗寺〜志度寺〜長尾寺、約16kmを踏破！
When we reached up to Nagao-ji Temple, he looked tired but successfully walked 16km from 85th Yakuri-ji to 86th Shido-ji and up to 87th Nagao-ji.
屋島寺からの旧遍路道でお遍路さんを抜き去った経験に加え、この日の長距離踏破も、幸太郎にとって大きな自信となりました。
This long walking that day made him more confident.
