フランスからのお客さんがチェックアウトのとき、申し訳なさそうにそう言うので「いえいえ、全然大丈夫ですよ。Bonne journée !（よい一日を）」と笑顔でお見送りしました。
When our guest from France apologised as they were checking out, I smiled and said, “No problem at all. Bonne journée!”
障子は紙でできているので、こうして破れることがあります。
As shoji screens, paper windows are made of paper, they can tear like this.
なので、若葉屋ではこのように補修用の障子紙、のり、筆を常備しています。

破れたところのマスだけをカッターで切り目を入れ、枠を水で濡らせば簡単に切り取ることができます。あとは補修用の障子紙を切ってのりで貼り合わせるだけです。
Simply cut along the torn section with a craft knife, then dampen the frame with water to make it easy to remove. All that remains is to cut a piece of repair paper to size and stick it in place with glue.
わかりますか？ 貼り直したのは左の下から二番目のマスです。我ながらきれいに直せました。

障子は指でつけば子どもでも簡単に破ってしまいます。それでも、私はこの障子という日本独特のもろい建具を不良品だとは思いません。破れやすくても、こうやって素人が安く簡単に直せるのですから。上等な建具です。
Even a child can easily tear shoji screens with their fingers. Even so, I do not consider these Japanese fragile screens to be defective. After all, although they tear easily, they can be repaired cheaply and easily by an amateur like me. They are perfect pieces of craftsmanship.
